Charlie’s grassroots involvement laid the foundation for a life of public service. The relationships he built — with families, seniors, youth, local organizations, and faith communities — helped him understand firsthand the issues people faced. He listened. He learned. And he acted.

Recognizing the need for strong, principled leadership, Charlie stepped into the public arena. In 2016, he ran for office — and won — defeating a 27-year incumbent to become Director of the Midway City Sanitary District. It was the beginning of a new chapter in service to his community.  He learned how critical public services—sanitation, clean water, public health—affect every household, every day, but at the same time keeping the cost lowest in Orange County
